The Story Behind the Song

I've known the story of Odysseus since I was a kid. My paternal grandfather came to Australia from the Greek island of Ithaca in 1908, and growing up in a Greek-Australian household meant learning plenty about Greek history and mythology.

Between regular school and being sent to Greek school three times a week, I certainly got my fair share of Greek education! So when I decided to write a song about Odysseus and his legendary journey home, I already knew the story pretty well.

The Viking Odyssey is my musical retelling of Odysseus and his adventures, from the Trojan War and his encounters with the gods to his long journey home to Ithaca.

And despite knowing the story all these years, I've still never watched the movie. Who's got the bloody time? 😂

The Music and Vibe

Musically, I wanted something powerful and cinematic, combining Viking-inspired EDM-Rock with a touch of Metal-Rock, driving rhythms, heavy guitars, thunderous drums and powerful male vocals.

The idea was to bring an ancient Greek legend into a modern rock sound, with plenty of energy, drama and attitude. This is a hybrid production with real studio musicians combined with digital compositions. Full credits below.
