The True Story Behind "Tempt Me"

I’ve always loved “Tease Me” by Chaka Demus & Pliers, it’s one of those irresistible tracks that just hits the sweet spot. I wanted to write something that carried that same playful energy but in my own voice and story. After multiple rewrites, I finally landed on a song that felt completely right, different in sound, but with the same cheeky soul.

The challenge? Finding someone who could sing it with a genuine Jamaican accent. I searched high and low, Facebook musician groups, Bandmix, everywhere, until I came across Gaston. When I heard his demo, I knew instantly he was the one. He was confident, funny, and cheeky enough to ask for payment to come to my house for an audition, and of course I paid him and even covered his Uber fare. You gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want.

That day he sang several of my songs, and his voice was pure magic, smooth, smoky, and full of that whispering tone that’s one in a million. Now he’s part of the Chuck A Beat team with five songs under his belt and more on the way. The bonus? He’s also a fantastic guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, so he plays on some of the tracks other singers perform too. Gaston is the real deal, a rare talent who brought this song to life exactly how I imagined it.

The Intent

“Tempt Me” is about that playful tension between flirtation and surrender, the moment you know you should walk away but you don’t want to. It’s fun, sassy, and filled with island heat. I wanted it to make people dance but also smile, that perfect blend of tease and groove that reggae does so well.

The Music & Message

The beat is a blend of reggae and pop, tight bass, swaying guitars, and a seductive rhythm that pulls you in from the first bar. It’s bold, cheeky, and full of that Chuck A Beat energy, unapologetically fun but crafted with precision. This one belongs to the dancefloor and the imagination. The recording of this track went through multiple studios as unfortunately I had some bad studio experiences at the beginning so I had to move on until I found the studio that could feel my vibe instead of wanting to box me in to whatever they thought I should do. Grrr....men and their damn egos hey...I tell ya what I'm over people telling me what to do with my own damn music. Yeah...I'm ranting...hahaha...you'll get over it...hehehe...
