"Swagger Like Jagger" was inspired by one of the singers I work with who has an absolutely fantastic voice but is incredibly shy when it comes to performing. Despite having the talent, he hated the idea of standing on a stage or putting himself in front of a camera because he worried about being judged. After one conversation about why he wasn't putting himself out there, I found myself thinking about how many talented people hold themselves back for exactly the same reason. Before long, I was writing what would become "Swagger Like Jagger."

The Story Behind "Swagger Like Jagger"

At its heart, "Swagger Like Jagger" is about confidence, self-belief, and having the courage to share your talents with the world. The song encourages people to stop hiding in the background waiting for permission and instead step forward and take their shot. We all know people with incredible talent who never pursue their dreams because they're worried about criticism, rejection, or what strangers might say online.

Some people on social media have incorrectly assumed the song is about sexuality because of the "loud and proud" lyrics, but they've completely missed the point. The message is universal. It's about believing in yourself regardless of what other people think and having the confidence to own your moment when it arrives. The song isn't about who you are, it's about having the courage to be who you are.

Built around an upbeat hip-hop groove packed with humour, attitude, confidence, and a healthy dose of swagger, "Swagger Like Jagger" was designed to be fun while delivering an important message. One of my favourite parts of the track is the spoken bridge. Many listeners assume it's a friend mocking the singer, but it's actually the voice of online trolls saying exactly the things that performers fear hearing when they put themselves out there. Those negative voices are often the very reason talented people stay hidden. Rather than letting those comments win, the song turns them into fuel and uses them as motivation. Musically, the track combines upbeat hip-hop rhythms, catchy hooks, humour, and encouragement into a song that feels more like a conversation between friends than a lecture.
