"Soulmate" was one of three wedding songs I completed after one of my singers, Ennet Judd, asked me a simple question: "Why don't we create a wedding album together?" It sounded like a great idea at the time, so I spent a weekend brainstorming and came up with eight different song concepts. The problem was that writing wedding songs turned out to be far harder than I expected. I've always found it easier to write about real life experiences, struggles, humour, and situations I genuinely relate to. Writing about a subject I don't personally believe in was a completely different challenge. Out of those eight ideas, only three songs were eventually completed, and "Soulmate" was one of them.

The Story Behind "Soulmate"

"Soulmate" captures one of life's most important moments, the walk towards the person you have chosen to spend your future with. Rather than focusing on grand declarations of love, the song centres on anticipation, commitment, and the excitement of finally reaching that moment where two lives officially become one. The lyrics follow the emotions many couples experience on their wedding day, nervousness, excitement, hope, and the belief that the journey ahead is only just beginning.

The Music and Vibe

Written as a modern alternative to traditional wedding music, "Soulmate" blends warm acoustic guitar, piano, and gentle synth textures into a heartfelt contemporary ballad celebrating love, commitment, and shared futures. Designed for couples seeking something fresh yet timeless, the song captures the emotion of walking down the aisle, exchanging vows, or sharing a first dance without relying on the usual wedding clichés.

Having already recorded several songs with Ennet Judd, I knew she would be the perfect voice to bring "Soulmate" to life. It was Ennet's original suggestion to create a wedding album that sparked the entire project in the first place, so it felt fitting that she would also sing one of the songs that emerged from those writing sessions. Her warm, expressive vocal delivery helped capture the sincerity and emotion I was aiming for, giving the song the heartfelt feel it needed.
