“Saddle Up” was one of those songs that arrived completely out of the blue. One day I was talking with my son about something and casually said, “Buckle up, son.” After he left, that phrase kept rattling around inside my head. I started writing a song about relationships and how some people rush in too quickly, only to discover later that they're completely incompatible. As the lyrics developed, I decided “buckle up” didn't quite fit the country flavour of the song, so I changed it to “saddle up, son.” Then after finishing most of the lyrics, I realised nobody calls their partner “son,” unless they're trying to end the relationship immediately. So “son” became “hun,” and “Saddle Up” was born.

The Story Behind "Saddle Up"

At its heart, “Saddle Up” is about taking your time in relationships instead of rushing headfirst into something that may not last. Too many people get swept away by attraction, excitement, and chemistry, only to discover later that they barely know each other. The song uses playful country imagery, horses, rodeos, and dusty trails to deliver a simple message, slow down, enjoy the ride, and make sure you're heading in the same direction before galloping off into the sunset together.

The Music and Vibe

Built around a playful country-pop groove, catchy hooks, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek attitude, “Saddle Up” combines humour, romance, and a little bit of life advice. Took  a while to decide which singer to use on it as the demos that the session singers were sending me even tough some were good, they just didn't quite get the attitude that I wanted the song to have so in the end I used Jasmin who has sang a few songs for me as she sung it the best and gave it the swagger that it needed in the vocal delivery. The track feels like a fun country fair mixed with a modern relationship lesson, complete with cowboy imagery, singalong moments, and a chorus designed to stick in your head long after the ride is over.

Saddle Up by Chuck A Beat Lyrics

Intro
Now girls, let me tell you a story.
I met this handsome boy at the state fair
he said; come on doll, how about some fun in that barn?
and I said: back off, boy

Verse 1
You’re galloping before I said yes,
Now you got yourself in a right ol’ mess.
(Yee-haa!)
(Yee-haa!)
Pull your reins in before you run,
Saddle up and buckle up, hun.
(Giddy up, now!)
(Giddy up, now!)
(Giddy up, now!)

Verse 2
Your eyes are wild like the setting sun,
You chase my heart before the race’s begun.
(Whoa there, cowboy…)
Wooow…Slow that fire, don’t let it burn,
Love’s a road, babe, twist at every turn.

Chorus
Hold me steady, don’t let go,
Love ain’t a rodeo show.
If you want my heart to run,
Learn the rhythm, don’t jump the gun.
(Yee-haa!)
There’s magic when the moment’s right,
No need to rush the starry night.
If you want this love to last, and be the one,
Saddle up slow, hun… don’t
make me run.

Verse 3
You talk like thunder, kiss like rain,
But we’re two hearts, not a hurricane.
(Uh-huh, ride it steady now…)
Ease that pace, don’t break the spell,
Love’s a story we both should tell.

Bridge
Don’t spur it on just to see how it ends,
Love’s better built when it starts as friends.
If you crash that gate, the whole thing ends,
We’re building a kingdom, not a weekend.

If we crash and burn,
Too bad boy, you don't get another turn.
Take my hand, let’s walk, not fly,
We’ll ride together, you and I.
(Yee-haa!)
(Yee-haa!)

Final Chorus
Hold me steady, don’t let go,
Love ain’t a rodeo show.
If you want my heart to run,
Learn the rhythm, don’t jump the gun.
You’ll find me when the dust is done,
Saddle up slow, cowboy…
(Yee-haa!)
I might be the one.
(Giddy up now…) mmm
(Giddy up now…) mmm
(Giddy up now…) mmm
Now…
Now…
Now…
Now…
Now…
Now…
Now…
Now…
(Giddy up now…)
