Introduction

Some songs come from life experiences. Some come from deep emotions. And then there are the songs that arrive because Facebook decides to throw something completely ridiculous into your news feed.

That is exactly how "Money Honey" was born. One day a cartoon meme popped up on my Facebook feed showing a bloke wanting a hundred dollar bill tattooed on a very private part of his anatomy. When the tattoo artist asked why, his answer was simple: he liked to play with his money and watch it grow.

The moment I saw it, I laughed and immediately thought, "That would make a great song." A few minutes later the ideas were already flowing and before long I had turned a silly internet joke into one of the cheekiest tracks I've ever written.

The Story Behind "Money Honey"

The original version of "Money Honey" was written with a Latin music feel. It was fun, catchy and packed with attitude, but after releasing it I kept hearing something different in my head. I started imagining the song with dirty blues guitars, punchy drums and the kind of swagger that only a blues rock band can deliver.

So I went back to the drawing board and rewrote the lyrics to better suit a bluesy rock arrangement. The character became even more outrageous, the humour became sharper and the whole song developed a bigger personality. Instead of simply being a funny idea, it turned into a full blown tongue in cheek blues rock story about loneliness, ego, temptation and one man's unusual relationship with a dollar sign.

At its heart, the song is pure comedy. It's deliberately over the top, packed with double meanings, bad decisions, questionable life choices and enough cheeky humour to make people either laugh out loud or shake their heads in disbelief. Usually both.

The Music and Vibe

Musically, "Money Honey" leans hard into blues rock swagger. Big guitar riffs, driving drums, gritty attitude and enough groove to make the whole song bounce from beginning to end. It feels like a late night bar band after a few drinks, cranking the amps up and having the time of their lives.

The guitar work is a huge part of what makes this version work. The riffs punch through the speakers while the rhythm section drives the song forward with confidence and attitude. Combined with the playful lyrics, the result is a track that never takes itself too seriously while still sounding like a proper rock record.

Out of all the versions I've created, this blues rock arrangement became my favourite. It captures the humour, the personality and the ridiculousness of the original idea far better than I ever expected. Sometimes the second version really is the better version.

The result is a cheeky, blues soaked rock anthem that proves inspiration can come from absolutely anywhere, even a random meme scrolling past on Facebook.

Money Honey by Chuck A Beat Lyrics

Verse 1
Got a hundred dollar bill tattooed down below,
Stroke it slow when I'm lonely, watch that greenback grow.
Call me crazy, baby, yeah, they say I'm obscene,
But I got Wall Street runnin' like a full movie scene in my jeans.
My girl's gone away, left me hangin' high and dry,
So I spend my wicked nights with a dollar sign by my side.

Pre Chorus
One hand on the bottle, one on my pride,
The devil in my mirror says, "Let's enjoy the ride."

Chorus
I say go, go, go, make my money grow,
Benjamin's smilin', puttin' on a show.
Got a greenback garden down below,
Just a one man band, and I rake in dough.

Verse 2
Got a sock on the door, oh, I got nothin' to prove,
Lay it down low and quiet, while I'm makin' my own moves.
I call him Richie Rich, yeah, he loves that spotlight,
Every midnight circus show, we dim it down, turn off the light.
Keep a little lotion handy, keep a groove with the loot,
Wall Street's cuttin' loose, dancin' wild in my birthday suit.

Chorus
Come on, go, go, go, make my money grow,
Yeah, I'm rich in rhythm, poor in shame, you know.
Got a self made fortune in a private show,
Just me and my blues, makin' green overflow.

Bridge
Doctor said, "Boy, that ink's wild."
I said, "Doc, you should see it when it smiles."
Mama warned, "You'll go blind with pride,"
But hell, I see just fine, from my back side.

Breakdown
You think crypto's hot?
Try investin' in wrist stock.
Self made, self paid,
Wall Street in my pants, self trade.

Chorus
Now I got a girl, I say come on blow, blow, blow,
Lips on skin down below, ooh baby, make me glow.
Benjamin's grinnin',
Me, I just go with the flow.
Twice the fun, and still my money grows.

Outro
Don't need no fans, I'm the man in command,
Benji in my hand, growin' our band.
With a cheeky grin, make my ding a ling glow,
Tattooed cash, yeah, man, I make money grow.
