The Story Behind "Ho Ho Vikings"
I've always loved comedy and taking the piss out of just about anything, especially Christmas! I've written quite a few Christmas songs, although I've only released two through my other music projects. When I started collaborating with Odin's Roar, I thought, why the hell not give the Vikings their own ridiculous Christmas adventure?
After all, Santa comes from the North Pole and the Vikings came from Scandinavia, so they're practically neighbours. Well, close enough for my warped imagination anyway! PMSL!
That's when I decided to throw Santa, Rudolf, a bunch of hopeless elves and a few Norse gods together and see what sort of Christmas disaster I could create. Naturally, I had to include some questionable navigation systems, both modern and not so modern. Who needs GPS when you've got Odin's ravens, a glowing reindeer nose and a map that turns out to be wrapping paper?
Throw in Thor, Loki, a few hungry elves and a sleigh full of confusion, and you've got "Ho Ho Vikings." A completely ridiculous Christmas adventure where nobody knows where the bloody hell they're going, but they're all determined to get there anyway!
The Music and Vibe
I wanted this one to be a proper high-energy Viking metal-rock Christmas comedy, not another sweet little festive tune. Heavy distorted guitars, pounding double-kick drums, powerful chanting, theatrical character vocals and a big, catchy chorus built around "Ho, ho, haul!"
The idea was to make it sound like an epic Viking army charging into battle, except instead of conquering kingdoms, they're delivering Christmas presents and arguing over directions. It's loud, ridiculous, festive and deliberately over the top. This is a hybrid production with real studio musicians combined with digital compositions. Full credits below.
And if Santa's still following Rudolf's directions, don't expect your presents before Easter! PMSL!
Ho Ho Vikings by Odin's Roar & Chuck A Beat Lyrics
Intro
All right, crew, one sleigh, nine reindeer, and a very questionable map.
Verse 1
Santa checked the list by candlelight
Then found the North Pole moved overnight
Rudolf snorted, "Odin's ravens know the way!"
Two elves packed a helmet and a tray
Pre-Chorus
The snow shook hard, the old horns cried
A thundercloud came galloping by
Chorus
Ho, ho, haul! Let the whole hall roar!
Sleigh bells shake on the Asgard floor!
Santa calls, and the crew replies:
"Bring the gifts, and the mince-pie supply!"
Ho, ho, haul! Through the frost we ride!
Rudolf's red nose is our battle guide!
Verse 2
Thor met Santa at the mountain gate
Asked for a hammer; got a stocking plate
Loki swapped the labels just for fun
Now the elves gave Odin a toy drum
Call and Response
Santa: Who's got the route?
Chants: The ravens know!
Santa: Who packed the snacks?
Chants: We ate them, ho!
Rudolf: My nose says left!
Elves: That's the reindeer pen!
Santa: We'll circle round and try again!
Bridge
Santa: The elves beat shields; the Valkyries cheer
Rudolf's got a wreath stuck to one ear
Chants: One more hill! One more house!
Santa: And somebody tell Thor: no gifts for the mouse!
Final Chorus
Ho, ho, haul! Let the whole hall roar!
Sleigh bells shake on the Asgard floor!
Santa calls, and the crew replies:
"Bring the gifts, and the mince-pie supply!"
Ho, ho, haul! Till the dawn rides high!
Merry Yule from the sleigh in the sky!
Outro
Elves: We found the map!
Santa: That's the wrapping paper
Rudolf: I'm still taking the left!
