The Story Behind "Ghosted By The Strings"
"Ghosted By The Strings" was inspired by something almost every artist who has worked with session musicians understands. You spend hours writing a song, planning the arrangement and imagining exactly how everything will sound, only to receive a last minute cancellation or discover that somebody simply has not turned up. Even when you use digital music tools, you can ask for particular instruments repeatedly and still not receive anything close to what you wanted. The violins disappear, the piano goes missing and the entire orchestra apparently has somewhere better to be. Rather than getting frustrated, I turned the experience into a song about being ghosted by the very instruments that were supposed to bring the music to life.
The Music and Vibe
"Ghosted By The Strings" is a quirky alternative pop rock track with theatrical humour, punchy drums, guitar, bass, woodwinds, keyboards, electronic effects and synths by Brian Tang. James L R Curran brings the story to life with an expressive male vocal that moves between dry spoken comedy and energetic singing. The playful arrangement gives each missing instrument its own moment in the lyrics, while the driving rhythm and catchy chorus keep the song bouncing forward. Combining a real singer and synthesizer with digitally composed instrumentation gives the track its unusual hybrid sound, sitting somewhere between a studio comedy, an orchestral mishap and a catchy pop rock song.
Ghosted By The Strings by Chuck A Beat Lyrics
Intro
Strings?
Strings?
Hell oh
Where are you?
Darn
Ghosted
Verse 1
I wrote a song, it was heartfelt and deep
Laid down the beat, couldn’t get no sleep
I clicked on "play" with my hopes held high
But the damn woodwinds said "bye bye"
Chorus
Ghosted by the strings, left out in the cold
Waiting for the violins, but they never showed
Piano’s gone AWOL, no harp to be heard
It’s a solo act now, how absurd!
Verse 2
I begged the flute to show some grace
Instead, it vanished without a trace
The tambourine bounced right outta town
Left me hangin’ with a lonely sound
Chorus
Ghosted by the strings, it’s a musical crime
Even the banjo couldn’t spare me time
Thought I’d get layers, full orchestral bling
But all I got was a synth and a ping
Bridge
Maybe they’re shy, maybe they’re late
Maybe they ghosted me on a studio date
I’ll play air cello, fake that strum
Until the backup choir decides to come
Final Chorus
Ghosted by the strings, I still hit record
Rockin’ this silence like a one man chord
It’s tragic, it’s funny, it totally stings
But I made a hit without those strings!
I made a hit without those strings!
Outro
Play my song, hear me sing
Even if I got ghosted by strings
This melody will still sting
Cause even ghosts can hear a good thing
