"Boxed In" was born out of pure frustration after years of being told what kind of music I should be making. Every time I release a heartfelt ballad, someone asks why I don't write more rock songs. When I release a cheeky comedy track, others wonder why I don't stick to emotional songs instead. Then there are the streaming algorithms that seem to prefer artists staying safely inside one genre. The problem is...my brain simply doesn't work that way. The moment I begin writing a song, I already know what the beat will sound like in my head, so the lyrics naturally follow that direction. Some days my ideas become emotional stories, other days they become tongue-in-cheek comedy, and sometimes they turn into upbeat rock anthems like "Boxed In." Rather than letting people, platforms, or algorithms define who I should be as a songwriter, I decided to write an anthem about refusing to be boxed into anybody else's expectations.

The Story Behind "Boxed In"

Although the lyrics are full of confidence and attitude, the message is much bigger than simply believing in yourself. The song is about staying true to who you are, even when everyone around you expects you to follow the crowd. Whether it's critics, streaming platforms, social media algorithms, or people who think they know what's best for your career, there will always be someone trying to squeeze you into a neat little category. "Boxed In" is my way of saying no. I'll continue writing whatever stories my wonderfully twisted brain decides to throw at me, whether they're funny, emotional, controversial, romantic, or completely unexpected. Creativity shouldn't come with rules, and neither should songwriting.

The Music and Vibe

Musically, "Boxed In" blends upbeat rock energy with polished pop production to create an empowering anthem packed with attitude. As with many Chuck A Beat productions, the track combines both real musicians and carefully selected digital instrumentation. The electric guitars and bass are performed by real session musicians to capture the warmth and energy that only live players can deliver. Synths and keyboards are also often recorded by real musicians where possible. Because recording live drums is usually the most expensive part of a studio session, the drum performance on this track is created using high quality digital instruments, allowing the production budget to be focused where it makes the biggest impact while still delivering a polished commercial sound. The result is a Hybrid modern rock-pop track that balances live musicianship with contemporary production techniques.
