One day a cartoon meme popped up on my Facebook feed showing a bloke wanting a hundred dollar bill tattooed on a very private part of his anatomy. When the tattoo artist asked why, his answer was simple: he liked to play with his money and watch it grow.

The moment I saw it, I laughed and immediately thought, "That would make a great song." A few minutes later the ideas were already flowing and before long I had turned a silly internet joke into one of the cheekiest tracks I've ever written.

The Story Behind "Money Honey"

The original version of "Money Honey" was written with a Latin music feel. It was fun, catchy and packed with attitude, but after releasing it I kept hearing something different in my head. I started imagining the song with dirty blues guitars, punchy drums and the kind of swagger that only a blues rock band can deliver.

So I went back to the drawing board and rewrote the lyrics to better suit a bluesy rock arrangement. The character became even more outrageous, the humour became sharper and the whole song developed a bigger personality. Instead of simply being a funny idea, it turned into a full blown tongue in cheek blues rock story about loneliness, ego, temptation and one man's unusual relationship with a dollar sign.

At its heart, the song is pure comedy.
